Cannell created the show in order to capitalize on the burgeoning market for syndicated series. This montage was later repurposed as the title sequence, albeit with "Wanted Dead or Alive" replaced by a theme composed by Mike Post and a voice-over by Don LaFontaine.

The series was primarily filmed in San Diego, California, and surrounding suburbs. Though it saw good ratings, the show's first season was panned by critics, and Cannell and Lamas themselves were openly dissatisfied with the scripts.

In a late interview Lamas elaborated that he felt the writers had sidelined the main plot and regular cast of characters in favor of stories which centered around the guest cast, and also pointed out plot holes in the series formula: "Reno would just show up to where he needed to be, but how did he get there?

Why doesn't he leave the country? Why does he hang around and wait to be picked up by a cop who sees his poster? Lamas and Kinmont divorced in According to Lamas, their working relationship deteriorated after he had his new girlfriend, Shauna Sand , cast in a recurring role on the show in , and reportedly Lamas petitioned to have Kinmont fired in response to disparaging remarks she made about Sand on The Howard Stern Show.

The country had also discovered talents like Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni. Other Italian films were often badly dubbed and criticized for stilted performances.

Sabatello thought Neil Connery provided all the context needed. A working-class resident of Edinburgh, Scotland, Neil had little acting experience beyond a brief stint on a London stage.

The two had been close growing up, and Neil told press that Sean often gave him suits and shoes. Sean had once even gifted his brother with a new Jaguar—though Neil reported that Sean had burned out the engine.

So he sold it for scrap. Sean was already seemingly tired of Bond, which Neil pointed out. Publicly, Sean chided Sabatello for the stunt.

Privately, Neil said he advised him to make sure the contract was good. In a confusing bit of meta-fiction, Operation Kid Brother saw Neil Connery playing Doctor Neil Connery, a plastic surgeon who is also an expert in hypnosis and archery.

His fictional brother was referenced frequently, though simply referred to as a renowned super spy—never by name. The plot saw British Intelligence urging Dr.

Neil Connery might have been only a tenuous connection to Bond, but Sabatello had additional plans. He hired Lois Maxwell, who appeared as secretary Miss Moneypenny in the five official Bond films released up to that point, along with Bernard Lee, who played M in the first 11 Bond films.

There were others. So did Anthony Dawson, who portrayed Ernst Blofeld. Despite a lack of any official connection, this spoof would have a recognizable cast.

Operation Kid Brother also known as O. While the locations were beautiful, filming was not without its hazards. Fortunately, he wasn't wearing it at the time.

In Rabat, Morocco, a sequence in which Neil pretends to be blind and of Arabic descent called for actual blind extras, many of whom got lost and wandered off.

While running on the deck of a yacht, Neil slipped on a rug that had been carelessly left in his path and crashed into an obstacle, which led to five stitches in his leg.

Neil was also irritated that he often only got his lines the morning of shooting. It gets quite frantic at times.

Audiences also seemed disinterested in a Bond spoof, particularly one with an arbitrary Connery in its cast. Lorenzo Lamas has been tabloid fodder for decades.

In the spring of , at roughly the same time Sean Connery was growing vocal about his increasing boredom playing British spy James Bond , Italian film producer Dario Sabatello opened a newspaper and came across a photo that sent his mind racing.

Tall—though not quite as tall as Sean—and handsome, the year-old struck Sabatello as someone who could conceivably replace his more famous sibling as Bond.

A perfectly acceptable Hollywood biography, but a far cry from what I hoped for. Despite being rather infamous for his bad acting, Lorenzo Lamas has enjoyed a multi-faceted career that brought him fame among various demographics for vastly different reasons.

I first knew him as a B-grade action star, and that's how I've always regarded him. Later, I learned that people my parents' age remembered him as a young heartthrob and soap opera star.

More recently, he appeared in a slate of reality shows, A perfectly acceptable Hollywood biography, but a far cry from what I hoped for.

More recently, he appeared in a slate of reality shows, coming across to Millennials as one of those celebrities who, like Kloe Kardashian, are mostly famous for being famous.

Lately he's been doing a bunch of independent Christian movies and getting in good with the conservative right, all while guest starring in the occasional raunchy comedy and generating tabloid fodder via his jaw-droppingly dysfunctional family.

Anyway, for me, he was always this likable action star whose terrible acting kept him from achieving the heights of someone like Jean-Claude Van Damme.

And yes, Van Damme is a master thespian compared to Mr. Too bad, because I always thought he had a terrific look and seemed nice in real life.

He perfectly embodied four of my life goals back in high school: to be a martial arts master, to ride a Harley, to have sexy long hair, and to get in fantastic shape.

And though I never achieved any of that, at least I make a pretty mean mojito. I also wanted to know what it felt like to continue striving as an actor despite all the terrible feedback.

Unfortunately, this book gave me none of that. Mostly, Lamas just wants to talk about his bizarre Hollywood upbringing and never-ending string of failed marriages, broken engagements, and whirlwind romances.

And while I enjoyed getting a glimpse of what Fernando Lamas, Arlene Dahl, and Esther Williams Lorenzo's father, mother, and stepmom were like in real life, I couldn't care less about Lorenzo's personal relationships and why he felt justified in breaking off so many marriages.

Lamas' work in action films is almost completely ignored, and his discussion of martial arts lasts about two sentences.

Lamas doesn't seem as self-aware as he ought to be. He never mentions having any limitations as an actor, and I have a hard time believing he succeeded at singing and doing stand-up comedy as well he seems to think.

In the book, he mentions that his father, actor Fernando Lamas, would've envied his achievements. I almost did a spit-take when I read that. I think Lorenzo would be well-advised to take a page from Bruce Campbell's book and start taking himself a lot less seriously.

Yes, his acting has improved in recent years, but very few people would know that. I also wanted to shake my head at his insistence that he'd finally found true love with his 5th wife, Shawna Craig--since I know they ended up divorcing four years after the book's publication.

Ah, the lifestyles of the rich and the famous Oh, and Lamas actually has the audacity to refer to himself on the book's dust jacket as someone who has "kept his personal life private" until now.

So either he has no idea what "keeping things private" means, or his publisher wrote the blurb without actually reading the book.
